Nadi Shodhan Pranayama

Nadi Shodhan Pranayama is done with the help of Nostrils .Right nostril is Pingala Nadi, left nostril represents Ida nadi. In alternate nostril breathing, one inhales through right and exhales through left then inhales through left and exhales through right nostril. This purifies the Ida and Pin-gala nadis. This purification brings balance to body and mind. The metabolic processes are balanced. Anuloma means going with the right order and Viloma means going against the order. This technique helps to balance and harmonize the functioning of the right and left hemispheres of the brain. It has a soothing effect on the nervous system and calms the mind. Because exhalations are longer than inhalation, it encourages the removal of toxins. Nadi is a tubular organ for the passage of prana, or energy carrying cosmic waves, Shodhan means purifying, or cleansing. The term nadi Shodhan means the purification of the nerves. This pranayama is also referred to as “Anuloma Viloma Pranayama”.
