Sitali Pranayama

Sitali pranayama is same as Shitkari pranayama. Sitali refers to the sound caused when air is drawn in through the protruding tongue folded into a tube. Sitali pranayama is known as a cooling breath. It cools out inner anger, is said to lower fevers, detoxifies the body, and opens the throat center for creativity and improved communication. Tongue is rolled and inhalation is done via mouth and then exhalation with nostrils.

Sitali Pranayama Procedure

  • Protrude the tongue from your mouth and roll it like a tube.
  • Draw in the air through the mouth with the hissing sound "SSSSS".
  • Bring your tongue into the mouth and retain breath as long as you are comfortable.
  • Exhale slowly through both nostrils.
