Yoga Diet is also Called as Sattvic Diet. A sattvic diet is food that gives life, strength, energy, courage and self-determination.Yoga Diet is As important as practicing yoga , intake of sattvic food is also important it nourishes the body and provides necessary vitamins,minerals,proteins to the body. A balance of fresh fruit, vegetables, cooked whole grains, milk, legumes, nuts and seeds, using a combination of both raw and cooked foods. These foods increase sattwa in the body because they are light, simple and supply all the necessary nutrients. Oily and spicy foods creates heaviness and restlessness in the mind.Yoga Diet is considered in five principle of yoga.

Yoga Diet is mainly a vegetarian diet mainly,the intake of fruits,vegetables etc are there. Yoga Diet includes-

  • Vegetables- Most mild vegetables are considered sattvic. Pungent vegetables like hot peppers,tomatoes,eggplant,garlic,onion are excluded, as are gas-forming foods such as mushrooms and potatoes. They are considered rajasic and tamasic, respectively. Sometimes the shortcomings of these foods can be overcome by careful preparation. A practice is to drink freshly made vegetable juices for their prana,live enzymes, and easy absorption.
  • Whole Grains-These Food items give nutrients to the body and nourishes it.Whole grains include rice,whole wheat,spelt,oatmeal,barley.You can also have kicharee,porridge,chapatis,kheer.
  • Legumes-Mung Beans,lentils,yellow split peas,aduki beans,common beans,organic tofu and bean sprouts.
  • Sweeteners- Honey and jaggery a raw sugar are some sweeteners.
  • Spices-Sattvic spices are mild spices like basil,cardamon,cinnamon,coriander,cumin,fennel,fresh ginger and turmeric.
  • Sattvic Herbs -Aswagandha, bacopa, calamus, gotu kola, shatavari,saffron can be included in sattvic herbs.
